Q. If I bought a handgun prior to the law change in 2013 (and still have it), do I still need to get the HQL to buy a handgun?

A. Yes, but you are exempt from the training portion. You still need fingerprints and application.

Q. If I've taken a hunter safety course, do I need to get my HQL?

A. Yes, but you are exempt from the training portion. You still need fingerprints and application.


Q. If I only buy handguns that were made over 50 years ago, do I need to get my HQL?

A. No. Handguns made over 50 years ago are exempt from the HQL.


Q. If I am buying a lower receiver for an AR-15 or AK-47, do I need to get my HQL?

A. No. Receivers are not handguns therefore they do not require the HQL.
